Thanks Fony, even though in that topic there was still a good amount of confusion. But the video Darksoulpriest posted I think clears it up. Your Display Name will appear in things like guild lists and such, and there you will see the 4 digit code if there are non-unique names.

I do understand that the characters always refreshing on the char select screen from most recent to last is annoying. It's also annoying for very organized people to have to scroll things and having things rearranged on them every time they do something. A simple character lock "toggle" option would be a perfect fix.

Yes email them I accidentally put my full name down not knowing it would be shown and I emailed them and they changed it to whatever I requested
Here is the policy: I want to change my display name. This is not a service that is available, either through a purchase or through Support. Unless there is a specific privacy issues — that is, you used your real name or your email address for you in-game and forum display name — the name is permanent.
Unfortunately, if your Guild Wars account has been linked to NCSoft via accessing the ingame store, you cannot do this. You used to be able to do this by clicking the "Edit Account" button at the bottom of the screen at the character login screen, but after they set up the store, your email login became linked to your NCSoft Account.
Close LB, open the classic launcher, log in to character selection, and close it. Go to: C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2, copy the local.dat file, paste it into C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Gw2 Launchbuddy\Loginfiles and rename to 1.dat. Repeat the process for each account but name them 2.dat, 3.dat, etc.
